This is one of the best Norman Norell pieces I have had. It is the epitome of what he represented - well tailored, beautifully constructed clothing in the best possible fabric of the day. This is a dress that could be presented on any runway of today and feel as relevant now as when it was constructed. Every line is a study in thought and detailing. The neck is high and inside the collar it has a hand set lining of silk and a darling little label that says "front". The bodice skims over the torso and the sleeves has a slight fullness to them especially right above the cuff. More couture details at the cuff with each of the four button holes finished with proper dressmakers finishes. The waist is nipped in and you can cinch it further with the original top stitched fabric belt that has a slide buckle so the line is not broken but buckles and holes. The skirt has an immense amount of fabric and yet it sits perfectly without adding bulk. His signature hand set deep 10" hem becomes a detail in itself as you can see each perfect stitch subtly ringing the skirt and picking up the lines in the belt. Very chic, very rare and in excellent condition.
Unlined through the bodice and sleeves but with well finished internal seams. The skirt is lined in a high grade silk. It closes with a back, hidden set painted metal zipper. Each sleeve has two fabric covered buttons and proper finished buttonholes. The belt is original and attached at the sides by hidden threading. The fabric has a slight texture to it and teeny color changes inherent to the fabric to it that is natural. Signature deep, deep hem hand set hem.
